Laser hair removal is a popular cosmetic procedure all across the country. Individuals who are tired of shaving, tweezing, and waxing often turn to laser hair removal for a permanent solution to their unwanted hair.

How it Works

During laser hair removal, a laser produces a powerful beam of light of a particular wavelength. When applied to the skin, the energy of the light is preferentially absorbed by darker pigments in the hair follicles. The heated hair follicles are destroyed, leaving the surrounding skin undamaged. After three to five treatment sessions, most people experience permanent hair loss in the treated area. All parts of the body can be treated – the face, the underarms, the legs, even the bikini line area.

Advantages of the DIOLUX

The DIOLUX laser hair removal system is a high-powered 810nm diode laser system specifically designed for hair removal. It has several advantages over other laser systems. One is its speed – a typical laser system requires over an hour to treat a large area such as the back; with the DIOLUX, an entire back can be treated in less than 10 minutes.

Another advantage is its specially-designed water-cooled tip. Applying the cool tip to the skin protects the skin from the heat of the laser and makes the treatment much more comfortable for the patient. Most laser hair removal systems leave the skin looking, and feeling, like it has been subjected to a bad sunburn. The cooled tip of the DIOLUX significantly reduces discomfort and redness after treatment.

The third advantage of the DIOLUX laser is that it can be precisely adjusted for each individual patient, allowing patients with a wide variety of skin and hair colors to be treated effectively and safely.

How to Prepare for Laser Hair Removal

Before undergoing laser hair removal, it is important to not pluck or wax the area that will be treated for at least 6 weeks before the treatment. If the hair roots are removed by plucking or waxing, the treatment will be ineffective. The area should also be carefully protected from the sun for at least 6 weeks before and after each treatment, because sun exposure can reduce the effectiveness of the treatment.

What to Expect during Laser Hair Removal Treatment

The area to be treated will have the hair closely trimmed to allow the laser access to the hair follicles. The doctor will adjust the laser for your exact skin and hair color, and hair thickness. A cooling gel may be applied to the skin. The tip of the laser will be smoothly moved across the area being treated. After treatment, the skin may become temporarily reddened and feel somewhat uncomfortable; an ice pack or a cooling aloe vera gel can help relieve any discomfort. The hair in the treated area will start to fall out about a month later.

How Long

Treatments can be given as frequently as every 4 weeks. Each treatment will permanently reduce the amount of hair growth in the area. Treatments are given until hair growth stops in the area; most patients need three to five treatments in total.
