What is Medical Micro-Needling?
Micro-Needling is a medical process that breaks down old scar tissue to stimulate new skin cell growth. Micro-Needling is used to effectively treat mild to moderate acne scaring, fine lines, wrinkles, loose skin, pore size, stretch marks and other skin conditions determined by your Physician. Micro-Needling utilizes a pen like device to remove tissue in the treatment area to promote skin rejuvenation and decrease the appearance of scar tissue, wrinkles, stretch marks, acne scars and pore size.
Why does it work?
Dr. Stephens uses the MDPen®. When the MDPen® is moved across the skin, it rapidly creates a pattern of micro channels in the treatment area. The body reacts to these micro channels by increasing the production of collagen and elastin, leaving the skin smoother, fresher and more uniform. The micro channels also enhance the skin’s ability to absorb medical grade topical treatments such as anti-aging serums and skin lighteners when applied immediately after treatment.
Micro needling with the MDPen® is a very effective way to treat many skin concerns, including acne scarring. See the patient below in the before picture exhibiting very typical “pitted” scarring which shows through even under her makeup. After just 2 treatments with the MDPen®, see the after image of the same cheek… scars are minimized and not detectable in the photograph! Some patients also consider Ultherapy or more advanced dermal fillers.
